Looking for the perfect drink to go with your homemade apple pie? ; ) I’ve got just what you need!
Today, I’d like to share a staple drink in our household. My husband is from Bangladesh, where chai (tea) is a common drink to enjoy with loved ones. But every chai, even within the same country, has its own little twist. There are as many ways to make it as there are people! I recently read an interesting article about tea in South Asia if you’d like to know more about it: Check it out here!
So here is my husband’s signature chai recipe — AKA the best chai ever! (Yes, I’m probably biased for obvious reasons, but trust me on this one!)
Ingredients (for 2 cups of tea)
- 1 mug of milk
- half a mug of water
- 2 tablespoon of black tea
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 clove
- ½ tablespoon of white sugar
I sometimes add extra clove, cinnamon and/or cardamom pods depending on my mood :) You can also increase the amount for milk and/or add less water if you want your chai more creamy. It’s really personal!
Steps
- Add water to a hot pan.
- Once the water boils, add the smashed cardamom pods and the cinnamon stick.
- Add the clove and the cinnamon stick.
- Add the black tea and let it boil for about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the sugar and milk. Let it boil for about a minute or so.
- Remove from heat for one minute, then put it back on.
- Each time it comes to a boil and rises up, remove from heat and then put it back. This will make the texture of your chai a little creamier.
- Repeat this step two or three times.
- Strain the tea and enjoy it warm!
Till next time,
Garance
