Have you ever had this feeling where you know something is missing in your overall looks? You’re not particularly discontent with your outfit, but you feel plain and boring. I sometimes feel that way. Now, my ‘boring’ could just be someone else’s ‘simple’ but I think it’s different; you don’t have to be over the top with your appearance to not feel boring.
In today’s post, I’d like to give you a few tips on how to go from plain to stunning without breaking the bank or looking crazy (although the definition of crazy is debatable lol).
Play with makeup
Makeup is such an easy way to wake up a whole outfit. You can create a more interesting look by adding small elements like pink lipstick or even blue eyeliner. If, like me, you prefer a more simple look but still enjoy a little funky touch, the secret is balance.
Imagine a simple outfit: A white t-shirt, classic jeans, and a pair of white sneakers.
Now, imagine this same outfit with a thin layer of blue eyeliner and a big red scrunchie.
Ok, this might not be for everyone, but I definitely prefer the second option! If you’re not ready for bright-colored makeup, or if it just isn’t your thing, you can go for a simpler option: a beautiful gloss or a sweet pink blush. It really does not take a lot to add a little something!
Style your hair with scarves and accessories
I am a huge fan of scarves and big scrunchies. No matter how plain an outfit is, adding a beautiful orange scarf to your bun or ponytail will elevate your whole look without looking too funky.
A little while ago I started knitting a headband. I let this project sit on the side for now, but that also could be an option, you can make some beautiful big scrunchies too. It’s really simple to make, and what’s better than wearing your own creation? Nothing plain about that!
But don’t limit yourself to the hair; scarves can be used around the neck (not my favorite, but hey, it works for some people), on bags, etc.
Wear jewelry
There is nothing more feminine and beauty-enhancing than a big pair of earrings to me! But if you prefer going for simple studs or hoops, it works too. Rings, necklaces, bracelets, purses, glasses, watches etc. are all a great way to make a plain outfit a little less casual.
Try new hairstyles
This is probably the aspect I overlooked the most in my life. I always thought my hair was a little harder to manipulate, so I would never take the time to explore and have fun with it.
I never took the time to actually look up tutorials and find a couple of hairstyles that worked for me. It’s really not that complicated, and it really makes a difference!
You can also try out new hairstyles WITH a scarf (best of both worlds)!!!
Don’t avoid colors & patterns
If my big red scrunchie and blue eyeliner example did not convince you that color is the best weapon, I don’t know what to say! The truth is, I personally cannot stand this beige and neutral aesthetic; there is something so depressing about it.
PLSSSSSSS don’t avoid colors, patterns, interesting textures etc (unless you hate it!). There are so many options! I think colors can be a little intimidating for some people, but once you find the ones that suit you, it definitely becomes less frightening.
Now, you have all the keys to achieve a nice and stunning look (according to me) without feeling like a plain Jane.
Let me know if you have any other fun tips to share; I’ll be happy to hear them!
