August Newsletter 🍉 Morning Walks, Nostalgia & Feuilleté au Brie

Chapter 1 : A perfect day

If you know me or if you’ve been reading my blog lately, you probably know that I went to Bangladesh this summer and loved discovering this beautiful country. There are many things I miss now that I’m back, starting with my amazing family-in-law (especially my wonderful Ammu) or the endless amount of delicious food on the table. Among the long list of things I loved there, you will also find fashion. The Bangladeshi fashion is out of this world – and the shopping, a must-live experience!

When I got married, I had to pick three different dresses for three different occasions. IMAGINE!

The most special part of this experience was that I got to share this day with my Ammu, Papa and husband at a ‘market‘ that is now my favorite mall in Chittagong. We laughed, we bargained and bragained some more. Wonderful memories.

The day was beyond perfect, it couldn’t get any better, I thought. UNTIL IT DID – when Ammu turned to me and said ‘You must try this’ as she handed me a plate full of Fuchka and a glass of lassi.

Chapter 2 : Finding comfort

But we had to go back home… And with all the sadness that it brought me, I found a little bit of comfort in eating my little afternoon snack that I love so much. I’m not a healthy girl or anything of the sort, these crackers are simply to die for when covered with nutella and a handful of hazelnuts…

Chapter 3 : Name change

A few days after coming back home, we also had to go back to our life and this means administrative stuff – boring stuff. But this time was different! I went to the French embassy and received my new id papers, because I decided to take my husband’s last name. YAY!

It was a terribly exciting morning – I took all my time to go back home, wandering around my favorite city in Malta, browsing every aisle of Flying Tiger to look at their back to school collection – and I even stopping for a coffee. What a great day.

Chapter 4 : Missing Bangladesh (again)

Life is good. But the nostalgia of the tasteful breakfasts in Bangladesh has returned… I made myself an omelette – with a LOT of onions, just how I like it, with some shredded emmental cheese because the French in me needs to express herself from time to time. I warmed up a porotha and served myself a spoon of my favorite culinary treat in Bangladesh : Mango achar!

If my Ammu agrees to collaborate with me on this one, I could maybe share the recipe on the blog ;)

Chapter 5 : Bissap recipe

The breuvage is just as important as the meal. And this one has been my go-to during the month of August.

Bissap (Cold Hibiscus Tea) Recipe

1. Take a jar.

2. Pour some cold or room-temperature water in it.

3. Add a generous spoon of dry hibiscus leaves.

4. Stir.

5. Let it sit in the fridge overnight.

6. Stir again.

7. I like to drink it like this but feel free to add sugar, honey, lemon, mint, ginger… it’s up to you.

Enjoy and thank me later!

It’s not for everyone, my husband hates it actually, but you won’t know useless you try it, so…

Chapter 6 : Summer Nights

A few days ago, it was my friend’s birthday. We did a picnic on the beach. I almost forgot how nice summer nights are in this country. And if know nothing about Malta, you know that fireworks are nothing special here, it happens day and night – Yes, during the day too! But I must say that, although it is common, it is always a sweet feeling to witness it (unless it’s 9am).

Chapter 7 : Fashion update

Living in a super warm country, I learned the hard way that comfort is just as important as fashion- if not more important.

Also, your girl is a walker! I love to go places and get lost in the streets of Malta, even though I’ve been living in here for way too long to still get lost. I can’t be doing this in the wrong outfit.

So these past few months, I’ve been focusing more on better fabrics and comfort overall. And I’m happy to slowly create a wardrobe that is comfortable, beautiful and most importantly: that feels authentic to me!

Chapter 8 : The Brie adventures

A few minutes after this photo was taken, my husband called me and asked if I was down for a groceries trip – Of course, I am! So here we are, looking for the usuals… Eggs, bread, yogurt – An what do I see? Today is one of the French Days at Lidl. Which means that my favorite Brie is available!!! This cheese taste like my childhood. Literally.

I had to get one! So I got three…

I put one in the freezer for later, kept another in the fridge for snacking and used the last one to make my Feuilleté au Brie et à la moutarde (mustard). It’s an incredibly easy, quick and comforting meal.

Chapter 9 : Sweet mornings

After a meal like that, you sleep like a baby! unless you’re lactose intolerant… Lucky me, I’m not! This morning when I woke up, I found this little guy performing his routine: Waking up, cuddling his sister, and staying in bed with me until I wake up.

Today was a lazy day, so I stayed in bed a little longer than usual and read for an hour. As soon as I turned on my kindle, my reading partner showed up…

Chapter 10 : Current read

I started reading The Sirens by Emilia Hart. A fantasy book revolving around mermaids (?) Why not? So far, it’s been a pleasant read and a good introduction to the genre I’ve been shying away from.

…So many things to be grateful for! I hope this post was a sign for you to take a pen – or a keyboard – and reflect on your highlights and wins of the month.
