A Sign to Make Your Own Bread

A few days ago, for the very first time, I made my own bread. It might feel like it’s not a big deal, but it actually is for me! I always thought of it as an intimidating project to undertake but I could not be more wrong.

I followed this amazing recipe

It’s a very simple and easy recipe. The only thing I’ve done differently is the baking time. The original recipe says to bake the bread for 20 minutes, but I actually left it in the oven for about 45 minutes. I also turned them around to make sure each one of them was backed properly.

Ingredients:

  • 350 ml of warm water
  • 7g of instant dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 480g of all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Add the yeast to a bowl with water and mix with a whisk until you obtain a uniform texture.
  • Add the salt and the sugar to the bowl; mix again!
  • Add the flour and mix the dough with a spatula until no flour streaks remain.
  • Let the dough rest at room temperature for about an hour.
  • Cover with a wet cloth to help stop the surface of the bread from drying out.

1 hour later… (my favorite part!)

  • Transfer the dough to a well-floured surface and fold it over itself twice.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions.
  • Take each piece and form small balls.
  • Place each ball on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet with flour.
  • Spray water on the buns, slice them gently for decoration, and sprinkle some flour.
  • Let it bake (at 190°C)! I keep an eye on them every 20 minutes or so.

ET VOILÀ!

Like I said, it’s the first time I ever bake these, and I might get better with time, but this first try was an absolute success.

So, here is your sign to make your own bread too!

Garance xx
