My Top 3 Hair Tips

I’ve shared before that I cut my hair very short and began a hair growth journey for the past year or so. Waiting for my hair to get some length felt like such a long process, but I am slowly getting there, thankfully!

Cutting my hair and letting it grow again was the perfect occasion to unlearn and relearn everything I thought I knew about hair. I started following people who seemed to know what they were doing, testing hairstyles and products to finally find something that worked for me.

I don’t really have a routine, but I try, as much as possible, to respect certain principles in order to ensure cute hair at (almost) all times!

Today I’d love to share with you 3 tips that seem essential to me when it comes to healthy and pretty hair!

These tips are targeted at curly hair because I prefer talking about what I know, but I am sure that most of this advice can apply to anyone.

Make sure to do your own research on the topic, as we are all different!

Sleeping with a satin/silk bonnet/pillow

I cannot recommend this one enough, as this is the most efficient way to reduce breakage at night, in my opinion.

Depending on your budget, you can get either a satin or silk pillowcase or bonnet, or both! I like to use both of them because I tend to wake up without my bonnet most nights, LOL.

No matter what type of hair you have, I am certain that you will see a difference.

Also, these fabrics are much more gentle on your face, so it’s a win-win!

Doing scalp massages

The scalp is where everything starts! And it is important to take care of it. In the shower, while washing your hair or doing a mask, take the time to massage your scalp.

Not only does it feel amazing and help with headaches, but it is also a great way to help your hair grow!

Being gentle

I grew up seeing hairdressers go a little extra-rough on my hair because it was considered ‘hard’ to detangle or work with. So I, myself, took the habit of being rough if I had to, thinking that my hair could ‘handle it’.

Although, it is completely wrong. Hair is fragile, no matter what your hair type is, and it is important to handle it with care and caution. I only detangle it in the shower with a conditioner or a mask.

Make sure to use the right tools too! Avoid small combs and use a flexible brush. I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/Detangling-Detangler-Textured-Exfoliating-Beautiful/dp/B07Z6M1FYH/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1A0TYFNTIZJHY&keywords=flexi+brush+hair&qid=1707137792&sprefix=flexi+bush+hai%2Caps%2C307&sr=8-5   and I love it!

Avoid very tight elastic and prefer big satin scrunchies or even claw clips.

I hope you had a good time reading this post and that you found this advice helpful. Feel free to add to the conversation!

I wish you a great week and the bounciest curls : )

Garance xx
